How old do you have to be to get Solo?
You can open accounts that include Solo with NatWest from age 11 onwards and with HSBC from age 13 onwards. If you are interested in getting Solo, you should go to your nearest branch of either of these banks or visit their websites for more information.

Can Solo be used abroad?
If you have a Maestro logo on the back of your card, you can use it abroad wherever you see the Maestro sign, just as you would use Solo in the UK – but be aware that in some countries you may be asked to use your PIN as identification (as is now happening in the UK). If you have Maestro and/or Cirrus on your card, you can use it to withdraw cash at machines where these logos are displayed. Contact your bank for details of any charges you might incur when making transactions abroad.

Can Solo be used over the internet?
Yes, Solo can be used to make purchases online wherever you see the sign or are advised it is accepted.

Can I use Solo wherever I see the Switch or Maestro logos?
No. Many places now accept Solo but in the UK you should only use it wherever you see the Solo logo or know it's accepted. However, it is always worth asking as many retailers don’t display logos of the cards that they accept – or may not realise that people want to use Solo in their outlet.
For Solo cardholders, Maestro is only for use abroad.

I have been asked for an issue number when buying things online? Where do I find it?
Not all Solo cards have an issue number – it depends on which bank your card comes from. If you do have one, it will be at the bottom of the card and will be clearly labelled eg. with the words “Iss” or “Issue”.

I have a query about a Solo transaction – what should I do?
If you have any problems with Solo transactions, you should contact your bank branch and ask them to pursue the matter for you. S2 Card Services does not process transactions and has no access to your details: these are held by the bank that handles your account. Therefore we cannot assist in tracking down the cause of any problems.
